Nose piercing healing times vary depending on the position of the piercing, A small stud piercing in the nostril can take up to 6 months whereas a septum piercing will generally heal quicker as it goes through the soft skin just below the cartilage. If in doubt always check with your piercer.

As with all piercings good hygiene will improve healing time and minimise the risk of any infection. Follow these tips:
1. Use a saline solution (mix of water and salt) to clean you nose piercing with a soft cotton bud, twice a day if you can
2. Avoid using any cleansers or make up near the pierced area, and always ensure you have clean hands if you do need to touch your nose
3. Be careful when sleeping to avoid the nose rubbing on the pillow in bed.

Your piercing can be changed when its fully healed which various person to person, when there is no irritation or redness on either side of your piercing you are good to go.

A 1mm or size 18 gauge (this is the thickness of the hoop that actually goes through the piercing) is best for nose ring piercings that go through the septum. For nostril single piercings our flat back studs have the same standard gauge size. If in doubt speak to your piercer about the best size for your piercing.
